Movement instructions
Stand up with your torso upright and a dumbbell in each hand being held at arms length. The elbows should be close to the torso.
The palms of the hands should be facing your torso. This will be your starting position.
While holding the upper arm stationary, curl the right weight forward while contracting the biceps as you breathe out. Continue the movement until your biceps is fully contracted and the dumbbells are at shoulder level. Hold the contracted position for a second as you squeeze the biceps. Tip: Only the forearms should move.
Slowly begin to bring the dumbbells back to starting position as your breathe in.
Repeat the movement with the left hand. This equals one repetition.
Continue alternating in this manner for the recommended amount of repetitions.

The alternate hammer curl, also called the alternating hammer curl or alternating dumbbell hammer curl, is a single-joint resistance exercise based on elbow flexion.
You stand or sit with a dumbbell in each hand and your palms facing your thighs. Without rotating the wrist, you bend one elbow and raise the dumbbell toward the same-side shoulder. You then lower it under control and repeat the movement with the opposite arm.
The exercise gets its name from the hand position. Your thumb remains above your fingers as though you were holding the handle of a hammer.
The main movement occurs at the elbow. Your upper arm should remain close to your torso while the forearm moves through the repetition. The shoulders, hips, and lower back should remain relatively still.

The alternate hammer curl trains several muscles that bend the elbow. The amount each muscle contributes can change depending on your grip, elbow angle, load, lifting speed, and individual anatomy.
The biceps brachii is the prominent two-headed muscle on the front of the upper arm.
